I was on via Porta Rossa earlier today and noticed that the construction and scaffolding which has been around the Porta Rossa Hotel (which seemed like it was there for years) is finally gone. So I tried the door - and it was open! Inside I found one staff member who told me the hotel opens next week. It looks fantastic inside, with real old European charm, lots of dark wood, marble, etc. No restaurant, but there is a breakfast buffet, room service, and a bar - the dining area has a lot of character - the whole place does. I see on their website that they are offering rooms from 150 euro a night, with a free night if you stay four - not a bad deal.
