I am late in posting this - late with everything of late - but I still can't get overĀ Berlusconi's remark about President Elect Obama. Frankly, the guy seems to be on the same level as Sarah Palin is as far as the state of the world. I mean, who was supposed to think this was funny? I have already heard several unsolicited apologies from Italians. I think most people here are embarrassed by this kind of stupidity - just like I was embarrassed that McCain picked a person who frankly was not ready to represent the United States for anything, much less the vice presidency. There is nothing wrong with not being worldly, or not being intellectual - that is fine - but you can't lead a country if you are ignorant. I'll let Andrew Sullivan take it away:
Let's be real in a way the national media seems incapable of: this person should never have been placed on a national ticket in a mature democracy. She was incapable of running a town in Alaska competently. The impulsive, unvetted selection of a total unknown, with no knowledge of or interest in the wider world, as a replacement president remains one of the most disturbing events in modern American history.
